Old Centralians 2s 22 - 6 Cirencester

Round two of the Gloucestershire 1 North league season saw Cirencester head to Old Centralians. We always knew that this would be a physical contest and all of the team went in knowing that they would have a tough day at the office.

Waking up to the weather coming down in buckets, we knew that the challenge in front of us would be all the more difficult against the big Gloucester side.

The first half went as expected with Old Cents 2s using the 10 man rugby format to great effect.
Cirencester battled hard and with five minutes of the first 40 the scores were 7-6 to Old Centralians.
The try coming from a well worked driving line out from a fairly crooked throw!

With five minutes to go in the first half, Cirencester lost a key player in the form of no. 9 Tommy Woodward. Tommy took a knock to the head and gingerly walked off.

The halftime talk was suitably rousing and the second-half started very similar to the first half with Old Centralians playing a physical game!
Silly mistakes started to come into the Cirencester game combined with the experience of Old Cents coming through.

Tired bodies struggled on and with 10 minutes to go the power, composure and experience of the home side started to show. Three further tries came and the final score was 22-6 to Old Cents 2s.

Strong performances came in the shape of Ryan Brookes, flanker, who showed real leadership qualities and George Curtis at prop, on his first team debut who played really well against a tough, experienced opposition.

After the match you could tell the lads were frustrated with the desire to improve and play the game plan that they wanted.
Spirits were lifted due to the hospitality of the Old Centralians and the introduction of a ‘curry lasagna’, which can only be described as a culinary experience!

Head coach Will Mawby commented: "it was a tough day at the office. It was a brave performance but I know the guys want to be more than just brave. We will work hard to put things right and we look forward to welcoming Old Centralians back to the Whiteway later on in the season where we hope the result will be different."

Both teams are looking forward to the rematch in December.
